Known by the mountains and seas, I return to my original aspiration and strive for shared success.

On June 16, 2025, Cummins, along with customers and value chain partners, celebrated its 50th anniversary in China with a special Customer Day. Attendees included more than a dozen joint venture partners in China, 200 customer representatives from various industries, leaders from relevant industry associations, media, and Cummins employees, who reviewed Cummins’ 50-year journey in China. Facing the global energy transition and the development opportunities it presents, Cummins unveiled several new value-enhancing initiatives tailored for the Chinese market. These initiatives encompass diverse energy technology solutions and innovative services, aiming to support China’s energy transition and usher in a new chapter for its development in China.

Su Zimeng, President of the China Construction Machinery Industry Association, Li Shaohua, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, and leaders from major manufacturers including Dongfeng Motor, Beiqi Foton, Shaanxi Automobile, Liugong, JAC, and Chongqing Machinery & Electric attended the event. Through firsthand accounts, they shared a 50-year journey of Cummins’ deep roots in China, collaborating with partners across the supply chain to support the rapid growth of various industries in China, including transportation, engineering infrastructure, mining, communications, and power, and its global expansion.

In 1975, the first batch of mining trucks equipped with high-horsepower Cummins diesel engines were deployed in Chinese iron ore mines, marking the beginning of Cummins’ legendary journey in China. In the years that followed, Cummins continued to explore new models of collaboration with local companies. Starting in 1981, Cummins signed its first license agreement. In the 1990s, it established joint ventures and wholly-owned subsidiaries in cities such as Chongqing, Xiangyang, and Wuxi. In 2006, Cummins established an engine technology research and development center in Wuhan to initiate local R&D. Since then, Cummins has continuously increased its investment in China, tailoring efficient and clean technology solutions for the Chinese market and exporting its technology and supply chain capabilities to help Chinese innovations reach the global stage.

Nathan Stoner, Vice President of Cummins and Chairman of Cummins China, said: “Over the past 50 years, Cummins has grown from an engine manufacturer to a diversified power solutions provider, covering the entire value chain of engines, power generation, components, and new energy power, and providing comprehensive aftermarket support. Cummins has resonated with China’s economic development, actively participated in China’s industrialization process, and established deep cooperative relationships with Chinese companies, creating a model of win-win cooperation. I thank our partners for their journey together, crossing mountains and seas, and building trust with Cummins.”

Driven by innovation and customer-centric, the mission of “Powering the World Forward and Enabling a Better Life” is deeply ingrained in Cummins’ DNA. Rooted in China for 50 years, Cummins’ products and services are available across the country: from the high plateaus of the “Roof of the World” to bustling cities and vast fields; from the vast oceans to the uninhabited polar regions. Cummins power is always at the side of Chinese users, helping them create a better and more beautiful life.

The event brought together users from various application fields, including truck drivers, mine operators, agricultural machinery users, construction machinery users, construction vehicle users, data center builders, power generation customers, express delivery representatives, representatives of Antarctic research station builders, marine engine users, and female drivers participating in Cummins’ “Women in Freight” public welfare program to empower women. They shared their inspiring stories of growth with Cummins. These fascinating stories vividly illustrate Cummins’ 50 years of continuous customer empowerment in China.

Amidst the global energy transition, related industries in China are experiencing new opportunities for industrial upgrading. Adhering to its “zero carbon” strategy, Cummins is pursuing a dual-pronged approach: reducing emissions from traditional powertrains while also achieving breakthroughs in new zero-emission technologies, aligning with China’s sustainable development. At the event, Cummins unveiled several major projects covering key areas, including:

Using three key pillars of emissions upgrades, Cummins aims to help customers achieve value upgrades: First, leveraging its technological expertise and innovative achievements, Cummins is pioneering the development of forward-looking technologies for China VII/Non-V emissions standards; second, integrating product experience and engineering R&D resources from multiple regions around the world to ensure the smooth implementation of new products; and third, leveraging its understanding of specific application scenarios and deep data mining to achieve customized development, comprehensive product range, and comprehensive application coverage.

Regarding product localization, Cummins’ high-horsepower engines now cover platforms from 19 to 60 liters. In response to evolving market conditions and user needs, Cummins will leverage this localization capability to launch a new 30-liter platform, tailored for the demanding working conditions of mining operations, offering superior power performance, exceptional reliability, and efficient fuel economy. It will be launched in 2026 and will bring a brand new power experience to the mining industry, helping mining customers achieve efficient operations and sustainable development.

The company has released its latest Multi-Fuel Powertrain 3.0. Leveraging the latest control technology to monitor operating conditions in real time and employing precise algorithm optimization, it enables core components such as the engine, aftertreatment, transmission, and rear axle to work together to ensure the powertrain consistently operates at optimal efficiency under varying operating conditions. Powered by CBM 3.0, the Multi-Fuel Powertrain 3.0 can achieve fuel savings of 1.3% to 6% for diesel powertrains. It can utilize a variety of low-carbon and zero-carbon fuels, including diesel, natural gas, methanol, and hydrogen. Natural gas powertrains can achieve fuel savings of 1%-2%.

While continuously achieving breakthroughs in traditional energy, Cummins is actively promoting the development of its electric drive business, building core technical capabilities in motors, electronic controls, and electric drive system integration. Leveraging its unique strengths in electronic controls and power system integration, Cummins will launch a new generation of all-in-one power electronics for both electric axles and main drives, providing customized solutions for customers. Cummins’ aftermarket service system features five key value upgrades: comprehensive, intelligent, fast, specialized, and cost-effective. Over 2,000 service providers and nearly 20 central warehouses nationwide provide comprehensive, end-of-life coverage. Digital tools and intelligent platforms provide customers with 24/7, full-process, one-stop service. Smart logistics enable second-level response, minute-level dispatch, and hourly parts delivery. Over 5,000 certified technicians and over 120 on-site experts provide professional service, saving customers money, worry, and effort. With these five core values at its core and a global service footprint as its foundation, Cummins will help customers achieve significant growth both domestically and internationally.
These projects demonstrate Cummins’ deep insight into and unwavering commitment to the Chinese market. Cummins is committed to creating value upgrades for customers with innovative technologies, high-quality products, and efficient services, comprehensively assisting them in their energy transition and working together to achieve a zero-carbon future.

“Innovation is accelerating in China,” said Jennifer Rumsey, Chairman and CEO of Cummins. “As a global leader in power technology, Cummins will continue to cultivate the Chinese market. Leveraging its deep and solid technological foundation, we will further promote collaborative innovation with our partners, driving economic development, benefiting communities, and contributing to the success of our customers with cleaner, more efficient, and more diverse power technology solutions.”
